When people ask you “what do you do”, what do you say?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Do you give a bleak description of your day to day life followed by “it’s really complicated and boring” or do you light up with passion and excitement? ?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It doesn’t matter how you feel about your job, your answer to this question is a representation of you and your personal brand, more so than the job itself.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What do you I mean by this? Dave Ursillo explains it perfectly. He says, “Self-Branding is a time-consuming and comprehensive campaign through which you strive to make others’ perceptions and understanding of who you are, match who you strive or aspire to be in life.”⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So, the next time someone asks you what you do, think about how you want them to perceive you. I’m not saying you should lie. Be honest. If you hate your job then why are you doing it? There has to be some silver lining that keeps you coming back each day. Maybe you’re working to support a sick family member or to put your child through college. That’s the part of you that I want to know! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
At the end of the day, we are so much more than just a job title. Your personal brand should embody all of you, not just your job title! ?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So, let’s practice! What do you do?
